GTA 5 on console: mouse and keyboard support explained
Connecting a keyboard or mouse to your console is not proof that GTA V accepts it for aiming, movement or driving. The official platform material checked here does not establish native GTA V mouse-and-keyboard gameplay on console. Identify the exact edition and console, then check the game’s settings and the actions you need. Remote Play changes the connection and display path; controller translation is a different input method, not native PC controls. [MG-S01, CACHE-X05, MG-G01, MG-S02]

Identify the edition before following a setup
GTA V and GTA VI are different games. A PC tutorial does not establish console controls. On PlayStation, distinguish the PS5 edition from a PS4 edition used on a supported PlayStation; on Xbox, record whether you are using an Xbox One or Series edition. Also record Story Mode or GTA Online. Do not assume observations transfer between builds, generations or modes.
Sony’s GTA V listing names PS4/PS5, marks Remote Play support and lists online requirements. It does not certify native mouse aiming. Its displayed 2014 listing date must not be treated as the PS5 edition’s release date. The table below summarizes the checked documentation; it is not a device-test verdict. [MG-G01]

| Edition / platform | What the evidence supports | Native aiming + movement | ConsoleMouse verified here |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA V PS5 edition | PS5 listing and Remote Play flag. | Not established by checked sources. | No test supplied. |
| GTA V PS4 edition on supported PlayStation | PS4 listing; Sony PS4/PS5 Remote Play workflow. | Not established; do not transfer PS5 or PC observations. | No test supplied. |
| GTA V Xbox console editions | Publisher-enabled selected-game USB input is a platform rule. | Not established by checked sources. | No test supplied. |

Separate connection, typing and actual game actions
Sony documents compatible keyboard/mouse setup on PS5. Xbox’s official support information describes wired USB peripherals in selected games and apps when publishers enable support. The Xbox information was available on 7 October 2026 but could not be reconfirmed on 8 October; the source notes explain that limitation. Neither platform’s general support establishes GTA V mouse and keyboard controls. [MG-S01, CACHE-X05, MG-X01]
Keep four observations separate: paired peripheral, text entry, camera/movement response, and the complete actions you need. Only a relevant game-action observation answers that part of gameplay coverage. A recognised device or successful chat entry is not a substitute for aiming, driving and menu checks.
Use an action checklist you can reproduce
Start with the ordinary controller to confirm the game works. Inspect the exact edition’s input settings and current publisher documentation, then test actions individually. Record console, edition/build, Story Mode or Online, date, method and relevant settings alongside each result. This is a personal checklist, not a test we have executed.
- 1. Check keyboard movement separately from text entry.
- 2. Check relative mouse camera motion and aiming separately.
- 3. Check entering and leaving a vehicle.
- 4. Check steering, acceleration and braking independently.
- 5. Check interacting and selecting weapons or menus.
- 6. Check pause and navigation, including any actions still needing the controller.
- 7. Keep Story Mode and Online records separate. A connection or a successful action does not establish third-party input permission or account outcomes.
Translation is controller input—not a PC port
A translation method can map physical mouse movement to controller-stick state and keys to controller buttons. The game still receives controller-style input with its own response and turning limits; this is not guaranteed 1:1 PC aiming. A vendor’s use of “native PS5” for a device protocol must not become a claim that GTA V has native mouse controls. [LOCAL-FACTS, LOCAL-DBA03]
Choose according to needed actions and complete dependencies, not a peripheral logo. The GTA method guide covers that choice; the ConsoleMouse comparison covers client/output prerequisites. No vendor comparison, winner or benchmark is supplied here.
Remote Play support answers a different question
Sony’s GTA V listing marks Remote Play supported, and its Windows guide provides an own-console controller-streaming workflow. Neither establishes keyboard gameplay, acceptance of an independent client or ConsoleMouse compatibility. The general PS5 Remote Play guide explains app-panel controls and input diagnosis without duplicating this GTA-specific edition checklist. [MG-G01, MG-S02]
Xbox offers an official browser route for streaming from your own console, distinct from Sony Remote Play and from Cloud Gaming. This route was documented on 7 October 2026; see the dated source note for the evidence available. Streaming access does not establish GTA V mouse aiming. [CACHE-X04]

Keep display choice and planned product status separate
Planned ConsoleMouse needs a powered Windows PC or laptop and your own console in both modes. Input goes through that host and the home network to the console. TV Play keeps the console’s normal HDMI picture on a TV or monitor; PC Play streams back to the same Windows PC or laptop and leaves the TV unused. GTA still runs on the console, not in a native PC port. [LOCAL-FACTS]
GTA V is an initial validation target, not a passed compatibility test. ConsoleMouse is in development; no released app or GTA V device result is supplied here. A future GTA V result could not certify GTA VI. PS5 and Xbox verification must remain separate. [LOCAL-FACTS]
Decide from the actions you actually need
If the actual game supports the required native actions, try that route first. If ordinary controller play is sufficient, you do not need a translator simply because peripherals connect. If you need another method, check its current host, client, output and game-action dependencies before purchasing anything.
We develop ConsoleMouse and publish GTAMouse. This guide describes dated documentation and a way to check your setup, not hands-on compatibility results. For more about our product plans, see the linked product information.
Frequently asked questions
Does typing prove mouse aiming?
No. Text entry and game aiming are different actions; check both separately.
Does Remote Play supported mean mouse controls?
No. It establishes a streaming feature, not a mouse-to-camera input path.
Can a GTA V result prove GTA VI works?
No. Different games, builds and platforms need separate verification.
Do Story Mode and Online need separate checks?
Yes. Keep records separate; action success does not prove permission or account safety.
Is ConsoleMouse available now?
ConsoleMouse is in development. This guide supplies no released app or verified GTA V compatibility.
